Indicators should correlate E.g. birth rate is low = more developed a country Which birth/death rate model did we look at in ‘Population ‘?
Using one measure Birth rate = good, why? Death rate = poor, why? *Indicators are averages across a country – could be extreme opposites of wealth*
Better to combine indicators such as the Human Development Index (HDI) -Life expectancy, literacy rate and income based on spending power Maximum is HDI = 1 for wealthiest
Standard of living (Are you well off or poor?) Vs Physical quality of life index (PQLI) (educated, healthy children etc)
