Changes to PQA Plus Program • Address the issue of barn culture and implementing the GPPs • Overall program • More application to caretaker – useful feedback • More flexibility for customization for large systems to meet specific SOPs • Avoid test items where some systems may have higher requirements than suggested in the PQA Plus GPPs • Stay with current 3-year certification model
Changes to PQA Plus Program • Testing • Require testing for all training modules – initial and continuing education • Keep 20-25 questions • Allow for oral exams to be administered • Devise a policy for testing accommodations and retakes (responsibility of advisors) • Offer tests in Spanish
Changes to PQA Plus Program • Certification Delivery • Initial Certification • Clarify that initial training must be provided by a qualified advisor in a live facilitated session (one-on-one, group, in person or distance) • Distance-delivered must meet following requirements: size limitation of 30 total, two-way communication and test proctor available at distance locations (Dinah will ask the PQA Plus Task Force to clarify who qualifies as a test proctor) • Offer a self-directed module in a case-by-case special needs situation • Recertification • No change

PQA Plus vs 3 Revision Rollout for 2016 • June 2016 the Revised PQA Plus vs 3 Program will launch at the World Pork Expo. • PQA Plus State Trainer Trainings will begin the end of February and into March 2016. • February 26, 2016 – New Orleans, LA (Tying into the AASV Conference). All day event • March 16th – 17th, 2016 – Des Moines, IA (Tying into the Midwest Animal Sciences Conference). Starts at 1pm on the 16th and ends at noon on the 17th. • March 24th – TBD – All day event • PQA Plus State Trainers can schedule their PQA Plus Advisor classes to start as soon as they obtain their State Trainer certification. PQA Plus Advisor classes can start as early as the middle of March 2016 on the PQA Plus vs 3. • All PQA Plus Advisor certifications for PQA Plus vs 2 will expire August 31st 2016. • NO Producer Trainings on the PQA Plus vs 3 can take place until June 1st 2016. • All PQA Plus Advisors should utilize PQA Plus vs 2 until June 1st 2016
TQA • Certification Numbers • Advisors – 645 • Handlers – 34,428 • Late November we’ll be meeting with the TQA Task Force to start the revision process.
TQA • Program Protocol Changes • Trainer score at the time of Advisor trainings • Advisors have two chances to pass the exam during one setting. • Advisors score their own exam at the time of the Handler training • Advisors submit passed certification into Database • Advisors mail all exams (passed or failed to the National Pork Board) for an audit process. • Handlers have three chances to pass the exam during on setting
TQA • Program Protocol Changes • Online course for handlers • New Certifications are required to certify face to face. • Advisors and Handlers are able to recertify online every other certification cycle. • Advisors have two chances to pass exam and if they fail, they will be required to go to a face-to-face the following attempt. • Handlers have three chances to pass exam and if they fail, they will be required to go to a face-to-face the following attempt.

Age Requirements • Age is determined by the youth’s ages on Jan 1 of the current year. • The YQCA program is for youth 8-21 years of age. • Youth under eight years of age cannot be certified in YQCA, but are strongly encouraged to attend an Instructor-led YQCA education class if available in that state. • Parents with youth younger than 8 years of age should consult show or state requirements regarding quality assurance. The parent or guardian cannot become certified through the YQCA education program. Alternate adult programs (through NPB, NCBA, ASI, etc.) may meet show requirements if parents attend for youth under 8 years of age.
Age Brackets & Recertification Period • Age: 8-11 Junior • Train annually (If a state has a stricter rule, such as 1st year in the livestock program they must attend a face to face program.) • Age 12-14 Intermediate • Training annually or option to test. (If a state has a stricter rule, such as 1st year in the livestock program they must attend a face to face program.) • Age 15-18 Senior • Training annually or option to test. • Age 19-21 Young Adult • Training annually or option to test. • New to animal project • Youth complete basic overview module for YQCA program before completing their assigned modules. • 1st year of YQCA program Intermediate, Senior, and Young Adult must complete this module BEFORE completing assigned module at their grade level
Test Out Option - Testing • Only for Intermediate, Senior and Young Adult levels • 30 question minimum • 80% exam passing • 1 attempt to pass exam • If a student fail, they have to complete the on-line modules OR face-to-face training, depending upon the standards set in the state. • Contact the state coordinator for more information.
Online Module – passing Quizzes • 80% passing on end-of-module quiz • 1 attempt to pass in a 24-hour period (if platform allows)
Face-To-Face Trainings • Minimum 1 hour time slot • 3-4 production practices or topic areas • Will be specifically defined once curriculum map is finalized • Advisors and trainers are veterinarians, Extension professionals, or ag educators who have become certified in the YQCA program and offer training to youth producers (advisors) or certify advisors to train youth (trainers) • States may utilize YQCA resources for instruction and/or make adjustments to fit their state needs • Program & Policy Committee will determine approval of changes dealing with items in the Program and Policy document • Curriculum Committee will determine approval of changes pertaining to curriculum
