Priorities • - LMS system • Transitioning. • Which courses go into the queue first? • Is this an opportunity to improve online pedagogy? If so, what are the implications? • How much support is available and what are the criteria for prioritizing that support?
Possible issues to addressafter LMS decision • - Student technology literacy/abilities & Faculty technology literacy/abilities. • Technology literacy is broader than computer literacy. • Both parties need to know the basics of software-hardware relationship, connectivity, technological ethics, and how to use technology towards pedagogical goals. • Baseline skills - Some majors and programs imply fluency (e.g., engineering) others require it by degree completion (NCATE programs). • Baseline hardware (we assume students bring paper and pencil).
Possible issues to addressafter LMS decision • - Mobile learning • Interesting EDUCAUSE article – Are You Ready for Mobile Learning? • Ebooks, Smartphones, Ultra-mobile PCs, Laptops/desktops. • People are choosing their preferred mode of delivery/communication. That choice becomes a challenge for us. • The converse issue is what's sanctioned/supported? No. 2 pencils?
Possible issues to addressafter LMS decision • - Learning Spaces • Capital Assets is being confronted with the question of what is the baseline building technology. • It's difficult for them to go too far ’away from the wall' because they get into support issues they may not be ready to address. • The assumptions have not changed a lot since the 2008 document. But, technologies are being added to the landscape.
