The project will be divided into 4 main phases

1. Volunteering literacy in Oman’s Schools Khalfan Ahmed Khalfan Al Busaidi University of Delaware 4 Project Evaluation Statement of the Problem 1 • In Oman, there is no organized volunteering programs for school students. This minimizes the youth participation in the community and takes them away from the concept of volunteering. • When students enter universities/colleges they are somehow not comfortable and self motivated to engage themselves in such programs as they weren't exposed to it since early ages. The project will be divided into 4 main phases Establish a website that introduces the project to the community with it’s main objective and open the registration for the community to start building the team. Collaborate with instructors and professionals from colleges/universities to provide lectures for the students. Partner with government agencies and companies from the private sector to support the initiative. Start preparing for the conference and the award. Objectives 2 • The aim of this project is to develop a volunteering culture among school students ( Secondary School students), through encouraging their civic engagements projects and associated activities. • The project will highlight the best practices within the Omani community in different regions and award these practices annually. • At the end of each year a conference or youth summit will be held to showcase the best projects and hold discussions between officials/experts and the youth sector on how to develop the volunteering culture in the Omani society. 3 Activities • Create working groups and committees to coordinate the project team members in order to • follow up the work in the schools and • work as ambassadors of their regions to report of the recent news and activities happening. • Feature the ongoing activities in the Sultanate and good volunteering practices in the region or from different countries around the world that have the potential of being implemented in Oman. • Spread the volunteering literacy using of social media such as, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to foster communication between all regions in Oman. • Provide lectures for school students by experts in order to highlight the role of the voluntary work in the community. • Establish an award for the best practices in Oman. Present the award on an annual basis to encourage the students in civic engagement activities and innovations. • Hold a conference/ youth summit in accordance with the announcement of the best practices to conduct discussion between officials/ experts and youths in the volunteering areas.
