Mrs. Chawla, do you understand why I am here? My name is Luis Fisher. I’m a care manager.
I was contacted by your GP, Doctor Hassan. I am here to complete an initial assessment of your needs.
Maya thinks I’m not capable of looking after myself. Mum gets help with shopping and cleaning. Jean is her home help. I work full time so it’s hard for me to come round as often as I’d like to.
I don’t need help from outside the family. I can look after myself. I’m a diabetic and have to keep on top of what and when I eat. But you sometimes forget to turn off the gas and sometimes buy things you don’t need.
It’s true I sometimes forget things, but I remember to take my insulin twice a day don’t I Maya? I know you do Mum, but what if you start forgetting? I can see how this must be very frustrating for you Mrs. Chawla. Your GP, Doctor Hassan, does share some of your daughter’s concerns, however, if you do have difficulty remembering things, it’s best that we make the appropriate arrangements.
Go on then, Mr Fisher. I’ll answer your questions, but first… can you tell me again… why you are here?
