What is tonight’s topic about??? • The time has come for change • Lots of questions....... • Who will run the group – Joshua, me, management group • All the rest stays the same, soggy pizza, 4th Thursday of the month, and here at Quickstart http://www.quickstart.com/ (Sql Soft) • Same meeting format but looking at expanded range of topics – all still centered on SQL Server.

More Who – how – what? • From the 90’s – VB app to SQL Server 6.0 to • Now - .net app-aspx/web site server/dynamic delivery-store data as chunks/java/html/3rd party tool for web page creation/OLTP dbases - DSS dbases - OLAP (analysis services) - Operational Data Stores/SSIS-streaming/Data Feeds to from server - Big Data-Data Warehouse-Excel-Access-Text Files-Master Data-Other dbases (Oracle, Teradata, etc); Reporting Services-dashboards/Email/Batch Jobs/Internal Search Engines/Localization servers/a million 3rd party tools

Jobs/Roles Responsibilities count of meeting participants in those roles – 2 role per participant • Title depends on the company – each seems to have their own definition and some just call all of it DBA. To me jobs are: • DBA – keeps the machines running - 7 • Data Architect - 1 • System Architect - 3 • Developer - 4 • Business Analyst - 3 • Data Analyst - 5 • Business Intelligence -1 - architect, analyst, developer • ETL specialist - 4 • GIS Specialist - 1 • DW analyst - 1
