ONE CAREER IN FOCUS • FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST • Does anyone know what this job is? • “Forensic” means unnatural or suspicious • “Pathologist” is a scientist who studies changes to the human body due to disease of injury. • A forensic pathologist is a medical detective – a doctor who works in a lab and tries to understand why people die, usually to help police learn the reason for the deaths. • Do you know any TV shows the feature medical detectives • Why might a person want to become a forensics pathologist? What kind of education do you think is needed? • In which school subject areas should someone excel if he or she wants to be a medical detective?
