-go Verbs. There is a small but very important group of verbs that we call the “-go” verbs. These verbs are: Decir : to say/tell Hacer : to make/do Poner : to put Caer : to fall Salir : to leave Tener : to have Traer: to bring Venir : to come Oír : to hear.

  1. -go Verbs • There is a small but very important group of verbs that we call the “-go” verbs. These verbs are: • Decir: to say/tell • Hacer: to make/do • Poner: to put • Caer: to fall • Salir: to leave • Tener: to have • Traer: to bring • Venir: to come • Oír: to hear

  2. Why are these grouped together?? • Good question! • Do you remember why the yo form was special?

  3. Correcto! • yotengo: the yo form ends in –go. • So what do you think the yo form of venir is?

  4. Let’s look at those “yo” forms again… • Oír: yooigo • Hacer:yohago • Poner:yopongo • Caer: yocaigo • Salir:yosalgo • Tener: yotengo • Traer:yotraigo • Venir:yovengo • Decir: yodigo

  5. What about those other forms?? • They are regular!! • For example: hacer • yo hago • tú haces • él hace • nosotros hacemos • ellos hacen

  6. Venir • VENIR changes its stem, just like TENER: • yo vengo • tú vienes • él,ella Ud. viene • nosotros venimos • ellos, ellas, Uds. vienen

  7. One more for the road… > salir • yo ______ • tú ______ • él ______ • nosotros ______ • ellos ______

  8. salir • yo salgo • tú sales • él sale • nosotros salimos • ellos salen

  9. How about if we mix up the forms? • Yo _______ (traer) mismateriales a misclasespero mi hermanonunca________ (traer) susmateriales.

  10. Una Mezcla (a mixture) • Cuando yo _______ (tener) tiempo, _______ (salir) al parque. Si _______ (venir) unos amigos, _______ (hacer) algo diferente.

  11. Una Mezcla • Cuando yo tengo tiempo, salgo al parque. Si vienen unos amigos, hacemos algo diferente. • Notice how the subjects change in this sentence!

  12. En conclusión… • The –go verbs have an irregular yo form: hago, pongo, salgo, digo, caigo, tengo, traigo, vengo,oigo • The other forms are regular according to their conjugations. For example, traigo, traes, trae, traemos, traen • Tener, venir,decir, are stem-changing verbs and also change in the tú, él, and ellos forms: tienes, tiene, tienen; vienes, viene, vienen, dices, dice, dicen,
