  2. Murmured (v.) • Definition: Mumbled quietly or make low continuous sounds • Synonym: muttered • Antonym: bellow • The nomad murmured so quietly that John had to lean in to hear what the nomad was saying.

  3. Relent (v.) • Definiton: To give in, give up, or let up • Synonym: concede • Antonym: fight • Sentence: Despite John’s pleads for him to talk, the nomad didn’t relent and stayed silent.

  4. Terse (adj.) • Definition: To be brief or to the point; said in few words • Synonym: frank • Antonym: wordy • Sentence: Finally, when John persuaded the nomad to talk, the nomad only said a few terse phrases that were difficult to decipher. NO! NEVER! NOT NOW.

  5. Diminish (v.) • Definition: Become less or smaller; cause to be smaller or littler • Synonym: reduce • Antonym: increase • Sentence: When John thought he had finally gotten the nomad to talk, the amount that the nomad spoke began to diminish, frustrating John.

  6. Destination (n.) • Definition: A place one wants to go to; a goal • Synonym: endpoint • Antonym: start • Sentence: As John’s journey with the nomad reached its destination, John felt strangely indebted to the nomad for being the sole reason for John’s amazing expedition.

  7. Mercantile (adj.) • Definition: Concerning business or marketing • Synonym: trading • Antonym: spirituality • Sentence: When Bob was told to sell chocolate bars, he became a very mercantile person.

  8. Tactic (n.) • Definition: A strategic plan to get something done • Synonym: method • Antonym: gambit • Sentence: Bob’s effective mercantile tactics while selling chocolate bars produced a large profit.

  9. Scowled (v.) • Definition: Frowned with disapproval • Synonym: glared • Antonym: smiled • Sentence: The business man scowled at Bob as he trapped the man into a position where the entire chocolate bar economy would be in Bob’s control.

Wavered (v.) • Definition: Hesitated; to go back and forth on something; be indecisive • Synonym: dithered • Antonym: remain • Sentence: Bob’s business, Bob’s Chocolate Bars, wavered as the media found out that the main ingredient of Bob’s chocolate bars was a factory produced substitute of chocolate.

  11. Envisioned (v.) • Definition: Pictured in your mind • Synonym: anticipated • Antonym: ignore • Sentence: Many marketing newspapers envisioned the downfall of Bob’s Chocolate Bars after this recent scandal.

  12. Malevolent (adj.) • Definition: Evil or hateful • Synonym: malicious • Antonym: peaceful • Sentence: My malevolent brother kicked me.

  13. Splotched (v.) • Definition: Marked down sloppily • Synonym: blemished • Antonym: N/A • Sentence: Joe splotched down his homework so illegibly that he wasn’t able to read it the next day.

Aesthetic (adj.) • Definition: Relating to beauty or the appreciation of beauty; please in appearance • Synonym: appealing • Antonym: ugly • Sentence: Charlene was so stubborn on making her house as aesthetic as possible, that she hired 3 redecorating committees to discuss what was needed to be changed; she paid over $23,000,000 just so she could have a rare painting in her house.

  15. Anachronism (n.) • Definition: Something out of its proper or chronological order • Synonym: holdover • Antonym: proper • Sentence: The actor’s 2013 model ring was a great anachronism in the reenactment of the Japanese War.

  16. Beleaguered (adj.) • Definition: Beset with troubles or problems; surrounded by troops • Synonym: stressed • Antonym: calm • Sentence: The beleaguered man was thinking about quitting his overwhelming job.

  17. Caprice (n.) • Definition: An impulsive change of mind • Synonym: whim • Antonym: focus • Sentence: I had caprice when I discovered I would be forced to speak at the trial; I recanted my testimony. I was afraid of retribution from the criminals.

  18. Ebullient (adj.) • Definition: Zestfully enthusiastic • Synonym: jovial • Antonym: boring • Sentence: My ebullient dog is always in a hurry to get in the car and go on an adventure.

  19. Echelon (n.) • Definition: A level of responsibility or authority in a hierarchy; a rank • Synonym: tier • Antonym: socialism • Sentence: John couldn’t afford not taking the job offer so, he had to accept a low echelon job.
