I. Objectives At the end of the period, students are expected to: • Discuss specific activities to conserve/protect balance in nature. • Explain the importance of conserving soil, forest, and wildlife. • Identify the purpose of conserving soil, forest, and wildlife.
Conservation of Soil, Forest, Wildlife • Conservation is an ethic of resource use, allocation, and protection. Its primary focus is upon maintaining the health of the natural world: its, fisheries, habitats, and biological diversity.
Planting Trees • is the process of transplanting tree seedlings.
Why plant trees? • Prevents or reduces soil erosion and water pollution. Trees gives people a lot of benefits/opportunities and provide habitat for a lot of species.
Terraces A terrace is a leveled section of a hilly cultivated area. Terracing gives the landmass a stepped appearance thus slowing the easy washing down of the soil.
Avoiding Deforestation • Deforestation is the removal of a forest or stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to a nonforest use.
Habitat Creation • National Parks, Biosphere Reserves, zoological parks and botanical gardens and sanctuaries work as protected areas for wild life. They help in conserving the wild life in their wild state. Besides being the protected habitats of various species, they are also good places to take a tour.
Habitat Management • Refers to taking care of the habitat of the wildlife, so that they feel at home, safe and secure.
Ways in Conserving Nature: • by reducing pollution • by not practicing overgrazing and if necessary rotational grazing can be adopted . • plant trees on hillsides and abandoned land. • cut only matured or damage trees. • put out camp fires before leaving the camp and don't throw away lighted cigarettes.
