  2. What is Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD or TMD) is a painful condition affecting the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. It can result from various factors, including teeth grinding, jaw misalignment, stress, or injury. TMJ symptoms like jaw stiffness, clicking or popping sounds, headaches, and difficulty chewing or opening the mouth. Management typically involves conservative measures such as lifestyle modifications, stress reduction, and physical therapy. Dental splints, orthodontic treatments, or surgery may be recommended in severe cases. Early diagnosis and personalized TMJ treatment plans are crucial to alleviate discomfort and improve jaw function for those with TMJD.
