INTRODUCTIONThis report covers extension and research activities for year 2012. It also covers proposed activities for year 2013.The ADP collaborated with IAR&T on REFILS activities, Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan on Cashew survey in two (2) Local Government areas and National Rice and Maize centre for the promotion of High Quality Protein Maize. Also OSSADEP was deeply involved in the Farmer Business School of German International Cooperation (GIZ) tagged Cocoa Livelihood Programme in four (4) Local Government areas. A total of 2, 015 were trained under the programme. Also total of 90, 515 farmers were registered under the National Farmer Database to enable the farmers in the state benefit from the Growth Enhancement Support programme of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA). Furthermore under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), farmers enjoyed free distribution of Improved cassava cuttings, Maize and rice seeds. Agrochemicals and fertilizers were accessed by farmers in the six (6) Redemption centres under the Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GES).
STRUCTURE OF EXTENSION COMPONENT The extension component in Osun State Agricultural Development Programme is made up of two sub components. • Agricultural Technology Delivery; • Communication Support. Number of zones – Three (03) • Iwo; • Osogbo; • Ife/Ijesa. Number of Blocks - 31 Number of Cells - 248 Number of Extension Agents - 149 Farm Families - 256, 000 Extension Agents - Farm Families Ratio 1:1718

OTHER PROGRAMMES/PROJECTS • ROOT AND TUBER EXPANSION PROGRAMME (RTEP) • AGRICULTURAL TRANSFORMATION AGENDA (ATA)
ROOT AND TUBER EXPANSION PROGRAMME (RTEP) Seventeen (17) groups were registered under this programme cover five (5) Local Government Area. Fourteen (14) of the groups are into processing of Root and Tuber crops while three (3) are into production (2 for cassava and 1 for potato).
AGRICULTURAL TRANSFORMATION AGENDA (ATA) Osun State has keyed into the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government with the sensitisation of all the stakeholders of the beginning of the year (2012). The commodity-value-chain of priority on the state are Rice, Cassava, Oil palm/Cocoa, Fisheries and Livestock.

CHALLENGES FACING EXTENSION ACTIVITIES IN OSUN STATE • Incident of pepper and tomato wilt which has not got an acceptable solution from the Research Institutes; • Poor mobility situation of Local Government EAs; • Inadequate staff in the ADP; • Insufficient project vehicle; • Late or non-release of fund for extension and research activities.
