  1. Definitions Theory – a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena Solar System - the sun together with all the planets and other bodies that revolve around it. Galaxy - a large system of stars held together by mutual gravitation and isolated from similar systems by vast regions of space. Universe - the totality of known or supposed objects and phenomena throughout space. Cosmos- a complete, orderly and harmonious system.

  2. Big Bang Theory All of the matter and energy in the Universe was initially found in a very small space. An explosion happened which caused the Universe to begin expanding.

  3. The prevailing theory says that all energy-matter in our space-time bubble was created in a Big Bang event. The event created an inflating space-time bubble full of super-hot elementary particles. As the bubble expanded, the “particle soup” cooled down to the point that the present protons, neutrons and electrons had a chance to bind and create elemental atoms of hydrogen (and some helium). Massive hydrogen clouds, under gravitational attraction, blended together to form galaxies.

  4. How The Big Bang Theory Was Born • In 1929, Edwin Hubble observed that galaxies were moving away from the earth. The current rate of expansion is approx. 30-60 mph for every 3.2 million light years of space. • Virtually all theoretical work in cosmology now involves extensions of and refinements to the basic Big Bang theory. Much of the current work in cosmology includes understanding how galaxies form in the context of the Big Bang, understanding what happened at the Big Bang, and reconciling observations with the basic theory. • Scientists extrapolated this the expansion of the universe into the past and theorized that the universe expanded from a single point.

  5. 93 million mi. The sun is approximately109 times the size of earth.

  6. Solar System

  7. -454⁰ F 1 light year = 5,878,625,373,184 miles 28,000 light yrs 50,000 light yrs Distance from the center to the sun = 164,601,510,449,152,000 mi Our Galaxy – The Milky Way – Over 100 Billion Stars

  8. 5.4 billion miles across • Can contain our entire solar system • Largest known star

  9. What Our Children Are Being Taught • 1st grade science book – “Earth has changed much since its formation 4.5 billion yrs ago.” • Top-rated world geography textbook, Land and People(Scott, Foresman, and Co.), contains many passages stating that the earth and its features were millions of years old and that the universe began as stated by the Big Bang theory. • 1st Grade teacher’s manual – “Stress that the earth is thought to be 4.5 billion yrs old.” (Holt General Science Teacher’s Edition)

  10. Something From Nothing • It’s completely illogical. You can’t have NOTHING and then have something. You can’t leave a blank paper on the counter, and come back later and see a drawing on it without anyone touching it. • A state of zero volume that nevertheless contained infinite density and infinitely large energy.

  11. Questions • Where did all the matter come from to begin with? • What was the force (or the ignition) behind the explosion? • Then how did the world get here?

  12. Two Choices • “Somebody” made the world. • The world made itself.

  13. Can atoms create themselves? Can dead earth create life? Do explosions increase order? If you blew up a pile of lumber, metal, and other building materials, would it end up as an 747 airplane? If you say this is impossible, then you’re right. You’re even more right when you say that the universe is one billion times more complex than a 747. It just couldn’t have happened without a Creator!

  14. How old is the universe? • Science is based upon observation. It is bad science to call an unobservable event a fact of science. • Science is also based upon repetition. The beginning of time (Big Bang) can not be repeated. • The Age Of The Universe – (4,000-6,000 years old) genealogies recorded in Scripture

  15. Stephen Hawking, the most famous theoretical physicist in the world, says, “The odds against a universe like ours emerging out of something like the Big Bang are enormous. I think there are clearly religious implications. It would be very difficult to explain why the universe should be done in just this way, except as the act of God who intended to create beings just like us.”

  16. The Big Bounce (Crunch) Theory • The universe, before the Big Bang, was a universe already. Then imploded on itself, then expanded again.

  17. Genesis 1:14-18

  18. Exodus 20:11 makes it perfectly clear that the whole creation came into being during a six-day period…not billions of years.

  19. Creation • In the beginning – TIME • God – FORCE • Created – ACTION • The heavens – SPACE • And the earth – MATTER Genesis 1:1

  20. Psalm 8 1O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth! who hast set Thy glory above the heavens. 2Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast Thou ordained strength because of Thine enemies, that Thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest him? 5For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: 7All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth!

  21. What To Tell Your Children • Parents need to be grounded in the truth • Aware of textbooks and subject matters in the schools • Talk to your children to find out what’s being taught in the classroom

  22. What To Tell Your Children • The Water Cycle – Job 36:27-28; Eccl 1:6-7; 11:3; Job 26:8; Amos 9:6 • The Earth Is Round - Isaiah 40:22, Job 26:10 • The Earth Floats In Space – Job 26:7 • The way our bodies are made – Psalm 139:14 • The tiny little details on every insect. • The vast variety of plants and animals. – Gen 1:20-25 • The medicinal value of many plants. • Terms like "millions/billions of years," "descended from...," or "ape-men" usually refer to evolution. • Test answers can say, “The textbook says the earth is billions of years old.”

  23. What Does It Take For Earth To Exist • Right location in the galaxy • Correct distance from the sun • Protection by larger planets in the galaxy • Correct type of star (not too cool or hot) • Large moon (stabilizes the tilt of the earth @ 23 ½⁰) • Terrestrial planet (crust 4-30 miles thick with a diameter of 7,926 miles) • Plate tectonics • Magnetic field (molten iron core that circulates) • Oxygen-rich atmosphere • Liquid water to sustain life

  24. What Are The Chances? 1 one-thousandthof1 one-trillionth

  25. God’sWondrousUniverse

  26. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork. Psalm 19:1

  27. For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth…Col. 1:16

  28. Oh Lord, how manifold are Thy works! Psalm 104:24

  29. Praise ye Him, sun and moon: praise Him all ye stars of light. Psalm 148:3

  30. Human Life

  31. How great Thou art!
