Information • Harry Hopkins headed program • For every $3 within the state program, FERA donated $1 • Taxpayers angry about how much they had to pay • The Social Security Board took over FERA in 1935
Impact • Millions of Americans benefited • Hungry and needy were fed and clothed • Provided work for over 20 million people • Street construction, bridge building, and sewer laying projects started • School and public building repair • Establishment of FERA offices and stores • Many repair shops and projects • Set up more emergency relief programs later on
