Demonstration Projects Demonstration projects were used to: • test innovative programs and services to increase health literacy. • empower community organizations to develop innovative health literacy models or practices that may evolve into larger-scale interventions.
Background • Test innovative projects & services to increase health literacy among MFH service population. • Community based with intent to provide local access to health literate services. • Research and encourage evidence based and promising practices aimed toward MFH’s target population • Achieve a healthier Missouri and reduce health care costs
Results of the Demos • Tool kit creation • Readiness scale for FQHCs • Health literacy library in house • Health literacy to communities of color: • Hispanic • Bosnian • Chinese
Results of the Demos • Mental Health First Aid • A health literate curriculum for pharmacy students • Block Unit Model Health Liaisons • Environmental assessments
What’s Next? • MFH team in conjunction with the external evaluators will determine results of the demonstration projects. • Emerging promising practices or emerging practices will be incorporated into MFH when appropriate.
What’s Next? • These practices will also be distributed to Health Literacy Missouri for incorporation into their outreach efforts in Missouri. • MFH will incorporate health literacy principles into levels of operations.
