DMC testing algorithm for suspected Influenza (2011-12) • Evaluate all patients with influenza like illnessfor HIGH RISK criteria : • Hospitalized patients • Pregnant women • Children less than 5 years old • Persons aged 65 years or older • Adults and children with chronic pulmonary, cardiovascular, hepatic, hematological, neurologic, neuromuscular, or metabolic disorders • Adults and children who are immunosuppressed • Residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities • Do not test • Treat based on clinical judgement No HIGH RISK criteria • Influenza A & B Ag EIA • Send nasal/nasopharyngeal swab or nasal wash/aspirate • Turn around time <2hrs Order EIA ONLY • 1 or more of HIGH RISK criteria • NOT hospitalized Order BOTH EIA and PCR immediately AND place patient in Droplet Isolation • Influenza and RSV Assay Panel • Send nasal/nasopharyngeal swab or nasal wash/aspirate • Done Mon-Fri: turn around time - 1day • Hospitalized patients
