  2. Genre Genre is a noun that is defined as a category of music, art, and literature. Genre is generally used to describe a book or novel and categorize it. Category and classification are two synonyms of the word, genre. Winnie the Pooh is an classified as having a genre of fiction. One way to use genre in everyday life is when describing a book that I have previously read, describe the genre.
