II. God Is Jealous,13-15 “The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fic-tion: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindic-tive, blood-thirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanti-cidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully”– Richard Dawkins

Improper jealousy2. Godly jealousy • 2 Co.11:2; 12:20 sounds contradictory (“holy sin” or “righteous fornication”) • It is concerned for God’s honor and man’s salvation (v.2) • Used of ardent love: “intense positive interest in someth., ardor” (BDAG, 427)
Positive jealousy is like a husband’s jealousy for his wife • Ex.20:5; 34:14, Israel • Ac.12:21-23, Herod • His “royal apparel” was woven wholly of silver threads; the glitter-ing in the morning sun prompted the idolatrous exclamation of the multi-tude. He lingered five days in excruciating torments from worms
