  2. The 4-WAY TEST Of the things we think, say or do • Is it the TRUTH? • Is it FAIR to all concerned? • Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

  3. GOALS • To acquaint a large number of youth with Rotary and the Four-Way Test Speech Contest • To demonstrate and enhance Rotary’s commitment to youth • To heighten awareness of Rotary among youth, parents, schools, and community • To recognize, encourage, and reward hard work and accomplishment among youth

  4. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? • Any High School student in grades 9-12 • Not a previous District 5790 winner • Students from both public and private high schools or home schools in your community

  5. WHAT YOU WILL NEED • Three (3) Judges • One (1) Scorekeeper • One (1) Timer • Master of Ceremonies • Stopwatch, judge’s score sheets, summary score sheet • Numbers for contestants to draw

  6. WHAT YOU WILL NEED • Line item in club budget • Club Awards for contestants • Provide contestants and coaches lunch • Recommend five (5) maximum contestants for club program (remember to start a little early) • Time Required – 30 minutes

  7. SPEECH CONTEST RULES • Subject: “What the 4-Way Test Means To Me” • 3” x 5” index cards are allowed • No scripts or props of any kind • Time line of five (5) minutes maximum • Judged on content, delivery, and organization

  8. DATES AND TIMING • November – Contact schools to verify school participation and forward literature to school representative • December – Schedule club contest for February • January 1 – Club Coordinator identified and contact information submitted to the District Coordinator • January 15 – Verify the club contest date with the school

  9. DATES AND TIMING • February – Hold your club contest • March 1- Submit the Regional Participation Form to the District Coordinator • Late March/Early April – Two Regional Contests are held • May – District Conference/Final Contest

  10. CLUB COORDINATOR • Fill out and submit all forms before the due date • Make sure deadlines are met • Ensure that your students can participate!

  11. IMPACT • Promotes Rotary and its values • Provides more exposure for contestants and local Rotary Club (through photos and articles in your local newspaper, ask reporter to attend as guest) • Demonstrates how Rotary supports community youth and values

  12. IMPACT • Provides opportunities to showcase contestants and local Rotary Club on YouTube, Facebook, and other social networking media • Helps identify potential candidates for RITE, Ambassadorial and cultural scholarships
