FUTURE CAREER • International Student Advisor • Advising students in F and H visa categories • Processing necessary request in SEVIS • Assisting with new student orientation presentations and other educational initiatives that serve to inform students about immigration services • Advising students about issues related to cultural adjustment, academic and English language difficulties, financial concern, and college life in the U.S • Administering scholarship programs for students from abroad • Supporting recruitment initiatives in collaboration with marketing teams, and understanding diversity and multiculturalism

  3. GLOBAL PHENOMENONS • The Triangle in Africa---Access, quality, and financing • Constraining the growth and improvement of higher education • The Bologna Process • Creating academic degree standards throughout Europe • High Tech Industrial Parks • Very Accessible, but…..

CHALLENGES • Understanding the contexts of issues • Gaining multicultural competencies • Must be aware of multiple cultural values and biases • Being patient • A process that may appear to be routine for a traditional student get complicated if the student is an international student • Being familiar with other degree structures • Overcoming language/cultural barriers • High Context vs. Low Context • Direct Comm vs. Indirect Comm

PROPOSAL: INFORMATIONAL SESSION • Offer informational sessions to professors regarding cross-cultural communication in summer • Within the sessions, professors will learn…. • Education styles all over the world • International students’ expectations from professors • How to communicate with diverse students

GOALS • Educate professors and increase their cultural awareness and sensitivity • Being involved in various cultural groups/organizations to know international students in a personal level • Provide the high level of expertise and assistance that students with multiple cultural backgrounds expect • Create welcoming environments for all
