Diverse,positive climate Students have earned many prestigious scholarships: Morehead-Cain to UNC Poteatat Wake Forest Levine at UNCC Presidential Scholarship at Davidson Class of 2011 earned 158 scholarships Class of 2012 earned over 3.1 million in scholarships Class of 2013 earned over 3 million in scholarships All students at CHS can participate in band, clubs, club sports (Rugby and Lacrosse), sports and extracurricular activities.

Pleasant, AT Allen, and Pitts School) • Approximately 478 students • 50% neighborhood and 50% lottery • Engineering is Elementary - Boston Museum of Science

Coltrane Webb STEM Elementary • Problem-Based Learning model integrated throughout the day • Over 400 devices - 1:1 in 3rd-5th grades • Full-time technology teacher • STEAM (Arts) clubs integrated into the day, once per month, including K-2 and 3-5 robotics, Girls in Engineering, Newspaper, Art, Sign Language, Spanish, Fitness, Food Chemistry, Scratch, Photography, Chess and more!

  17. J.N. Fries STEM Program What is STEM? In our STEM program, the approach to teaching is through Problem Based and Project Based Learning. Students work collaboratively to solve real world problems using creativity, innovation and higher order thinking skills. STEM has a career focus along with science, technology, engineering and math infused into a rigorous course curriculum. Furr Elementary • Splash Spanish Immersion • Open Enrollment Program with no transportation • A maximum of 96 kindergarteners will participate in Splash in 2014-15 • First priority will be given to students who live within the Furr Elementary attendance zone • All other Splash students from outside the Furr attendance zone will be selected via a random drawing

  23. What is Splash? A 50/50 dual-language immersion program • Students are taught the same standards and content as those in a traditional kindergarten class, but those standards are taught in two languages • Students follow an A/B day schedule spending one day with the English-speaking instructor and the next with the Spanish-speaking instructor

  24. How do students benefit from being in Splash? Research shows: Students become bilingual (speaking, reading, and writing) Learning another language requires higher level thinking which improves students’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and performance in other academic areas Students in dual language programs perform higher on End-of-Grade tests than their peers in traditional classes Promotes cultural awareness and diversity

  29. What is it? • Virtual Extension of the Performance Learning Center • Supplemental courses • Advanced Placement • World Languages • Advanced science and math • Target audience • Middle and High School students

  30. How it works? • Students enroll for 2 classes per semester or 4 per year to be considered part-time public school students • Students will only access campus for final exams that require an EOC or Common Exam • CCS will issue a certificate per course indicating completion and course grade. In addition, each student will have courses recorded on their CCS transcript • Students may graduate from the PLC or Home School
