Practice the learned skills in nursing laboratory before field practice
Practice learned skills under supervision of clinical teacher in clinical settings

3. Clinical study I Placement allocation for individual students
Personnel supporting your clinical study
Clinical teacher/mentor
Supervise clinical practice and evaluate field performance
Clinical supervisor = named tutor for HD08 cohort
Provide advice and counseling to improve the clinical performance throughout 3 years
Resource person
Provide advice and support to day to day issues related to clinical learning
Clinical coordinator = Mr YF Shiu for HD 08 cohort
Provide administrative support to issues related to clinical placement
Logistics for the day of clinical placement
Day 1- gather at school 15 minutes before the scheduled duty hour
Day 2 onward – gather together outside the ward 10 minutes before the scheduled duty hour

Observe policies, rules and regulations of clinical venues

Keep changing room /lockers locked, return keys as appropriate

Daily laundry, keep clean and tidy, nicely iron

Hair clean and tidy, tied up long hair, no hair dye
Finger nails kept short, no coloring
Jewelry NOT allowed, only accepted pin-style earrings (one ear each)
Personal belonging
Watch with second hand
Notebook
Red, black Ball pen
Scissor
Wear student ID card at all times
7. Guide to clinical placement Injury on duty/ incident report
Inform clinical teacher/mentor, ward in charge, and resource person immediately
Treated in A&E if required
Complete accident/incident report form and send to GO within 72 hours
Casual leave
NOT encouraged
Get permission 1 week in advance
Written application via clinical coordinator
Final approval granted by the SP
Any absence should be made up with supplementary field at the end of school year or after the final block
8. Guide to clinical placement Sick leave
Report to clinical teacher/ mentor BEFORE the duty is to start
Inform ward in-charge
Inform clinical supervisor if resource person is not accessible
Obtain sick leave certificate
Complete notification of absence
Submitted to and signed by the clinical teacher/mentor and clinical supervisor/resource person on the first day of return from absence, or send to clinical coordinator if prolonged sick leave is anticipated
Supplementary field practice is needed
9. Guide to clinical placement Bad weather arrangement
Tropical cycle warning
Rainstorm warning
If lowered within the second half of the commencement of the duty
Resume duty within 2 hours after the typhoon no. 8 or black rainstorm signal is lowered
If foresee that return to duty is not possible due to traffic condition, inform clinical teacher/mentor, ward in-charge, and resource person as soon as possible
10. Assessment of clinical study Evaluate competence of clinical skills and performance as professional role
Self-evaluation, reflection, formative and summative
Unsatisfactory field performance

Withdraw from the Programme
Assessment of clinical skills as required by HKNC on AT, AOM in 1st or 2nd year and TPC in 3rd year (Clinical portfolio, p.36 and p.50)
3 attempts
Repeated after 1 week
3rd attempt with at least 2 weeks interval
Students should schedule the assessments and prepare the assessment items
11. Submission of official forms Field evaluation forms, Leave notification form, Assessment forms of AT/AOM/TPC
Make copies and keep record (keep in folder)
Submit original copies to clinical coordinator within 3 working days upon completion of each clinical placement block
Attach evaluation form with assignment cover page
“Incomplete” or FAIL grade will be received if not submitted within the deadline
