Introduction to Ocean • Gave students time to navigate the MBARI website and investigate current research projects being worked on. • Gave students introductory questions guiding them to the necessary information to perform case study • What is an upwelling • What is El Nino • How are they related • Describe the ideal habitat that a sardine would thrive • Why does any of this matter to residents of Kansas
Case Study • Groups of 2 (each with computer) • Very little verbal direction • Notes describing thoughts throughout the activity • Discussion Questions
Activity Wrap-up • Designed questions to assess and have students reflect on activity • What season did the upwelling occur? • What data leads you to this conclusion?
