Successful applications • Canning Division of General Practice: collaborative approach to the establishment of nurse led clinics in general practice • Far North Queensland Rural Division of General Practice: enabling practice nurses as lifestyle counsellors and coaches • General Practice Network South Inc: nurse development program: building teamwork in GP/PN teams • General Practice Victoria: optimising the role of the practice nurse for patients of CALD background • GP Access: development of a web based decision support tool for face to face and telephone triage • Hunter Rural Division: establishment of a peer review system for general practice nurses • Macarthur Division of General Practice: exploring strategies to increase the recruitment and retention of practice nurses in urban practices with a focus on solo practices and those with cultural specific issues • Otway Division of General Practice: development of a formal preceptorship program for practice nurses supporting undergraduate student nurse placements.
Canning – Nurse led clinics • Specialist diabetes clinics 5-7 practice nurses • 3-day accredited diabetes workshop • Mentored by local PHC nurse • Supported by division PN program officer • Use Canning extraction tool to send data to division • Use of collaborative methodology • Measurable outcomes • Practice team based approach
GP Access – web-based decision support for triage • Standardised resource to support safe and consistent decisions for telephone and F2F triage • Based on the current triage resource and experience • Improved safety and quality outcomes for patients
Macarthur – recruitment in urban practices • Undertake research to determine barriers to recruitment particularly in practices with specific cultural identities • Explore workforce solutions
FNQRDGP- lifestyle counsellors and coaches • Training for PNs as lifestyle counsellors/coaches • Structured mentoring and support from division • Development of impact evaluation tools • One to one and group sessions • Focus on rural and remote practices
Hunter rural – peer review • Establishment of peer review structure for PNs • Meetings every months in 3 locations to discuss cases • Focus on problem solving, quality improvement and minimising risk • Evaluation to include incident monitoring
General Practice South – team building • Training for GP/PN teams • Focus on enhanced clinical leadership by PNs • Quantitative tools to measure team function • Evaluation to include evidence of advanced roles for nurses
GPV – CALD resource • Development of a learning module to support role for nurses caring for patients from CALD background • Train the trainer program for division program officers
Otway – preceptorship training • Development of a preceptorship training module for PNs acting as preceptors for undergraduate students • Exploration of interrelationship between a positive placement experience and future recruitment
