REPENTANCE 1. What do we repent of?
REPENTANCE 1. What do we repent of? SIN
Romans 7:21-25 (New Century Version)– ”So I have learned this rule: When I want to do good, evil is there with me. In my mind, I am happy with God's law. But I see another law working in my body, which makes war against the law that my mind accepts. That other law working in my body is the law of sin, and it makes me its prisoner. What a miserable man I am! Who will save me from this body that brings me death? I thank God for saving me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So in my mind I am a slave to God's law, but in my sinful self I am a slave to the law of sin.” 1. What do we repent of? REPENTANCE
1 John 3:4 What is SIN?
1 John 3:4 (CEV)–”Everyone who sins breaks God’s law, because sin is the same as breaking God’s law." What is SIN?
Romans 6:23 Why must we repent of our sins?
We must repent of our sins because… ”the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Why must we repent of our sins?
John 3:16–”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Romans 3:24-25–“being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed”
Two essential requirements for entering the Kingdom of God 1. REPENTANCE 2. FAITH IN THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST
Romans 8:14—”For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Mark 1:15–”The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel”.
The gospel message also contains the very keys to the Kingdom of God
Liberty Hope
Mark 1:14-15–Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.’”
BELIEF OBEDIENCE FAITH
James 2:19–” You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!”
WORKS FAITH James 2:17-18–”Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
ABRAHAM FATHER OF THE FAITHFUL
James 2:24–” You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.”
Jesus came to save us OUT of our sins—not save us IN our SINS
Galatians 2:16-18–”knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. ”
