EQ: How does physical evidence support scientific theories that Earth has changed over time? (SC.7.E.6.4) Day 1: I can differentiate between sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks.
Bellringer (10 min) • Homework: • Science Fair parts 3, 4, and 5 are due THURSDAY! • Write the new objective in your Table of Contents and on a clean page in your notebook. • Answer the bellringer question.

EQ: How does physical evidence support scientific theories that Earth has changed over time? (SC.7.E.6.4) Day 2: I can differentiate between sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks.
Bellringer (10 minutes) • Homework: • 1. Finish “Types of Rocks” Sheet • 2. Science Fair Parts 3, 4, 5, are due THURSDAY. • On the “Three Main Types of Rocks” sheet, fill in the “characteristics” section for ALL 3 types of rocks. • The sooner you get this done, the sooner the FOOD ACTIVITY starts! • After you finish the bellringer, raise your hand to ask permission to wash your hands in one of the sink. • EVERYONE MUST WASH THEIR HANDS TO PARTICIPATE • I need a volunteer to help me pass out cups, plates and napkins
MY 2 MOST IMPORTANT RULES! (2 min) • You may NOT eat anything until the end of class. • If I catch you trying to eat before the end of class, I will take your food away. • If you are not listening to me or being disruptive to the class, I will take away your food.
Sedimentary Rocks (5 min) • Crumbled chocolate chips represent SEDIMENT. • When sediments are pressed together (compaction), they are mushed together into one object (cementation). • The final product is the SEDIMENTARY ROCK!
Igneous Rocks (5 min) • The Jell-O represents the lava. • First, we have liquid molten lava. • Once the lava begins to cool, it begins to form IGNEOUS ROCKS. • If the magma cooled quickly, it will be smooth. If the magma cooled slowly, it will probably have air pockets (holes).
Metamorphic Rocks (5 min) • The raw apples and ingredients represents sedimentary rocks and pieces of the Earth’s crust. • The heat within the earth creates a metamorphosis (change), and begins to combine the particles into a smooth rock. • The heat is what creates the rock, just like baking an Apple Crisp.
In conclusion (5 min) • Sedimentary Rock: Just like chocolate chips being CEMENTED and COMPACTED into one piece, sedimentary rock is created when sediments CEMENT and COMPACT together. • Igneous Rock: Just like Jell-O cooling into a solid, igneous rock is simply cooled magma. • Metamorphic Rock: Just like apple crisp being baked, the rocks within the earth “bake” together into one smooth rock.
Summary (20 min) • Now you may eat as you: • Fill in the rest of the “Three Types of Rocks” Sheet. • This will count as a grade (out of 5 points) • 1 point: correct characteristics listed • 1 point: correct food example listed • 3 points: correctly answers “how is the food example similar to the rock” for each of the 3 types of rocks • TOTAL: 5 points

EQ: How does physical evidence support scientific theories that Earth has changed over time? (SC.7.E.6.4) Day 4: I can relate patterns of the rock cycle with natural events.(SC.7.E.6.2)
Bellringer • Take out: notebook, Science Fair parts 3, 4, and 5 COMPLETED, and agenda. • Write your homework: • Work on Rock Cycle song, rap, or dance (due Tuesday). • On FRIDAY’s homework box, write • “Rock Cycle song, rap, or dance due Tuesday”.
Project (worth quiz grade) • In groups of 4 or less, you will have the option to choose ONE of these 3 assignments: • Choreograph (design) your own dance to my Rock Cycle song. • Write your own Rock Cycle song or rap. • Write your own Rock Cycle song or rap PLUS choreograph your own dance to your own song! This is a PRIVELEDGE, not a RIGHT. (In other words, this is a GIFT. I do not HAVE to take you outside.)
