  13. Mohring effect • The Mohring effect is a technical property of transit systems demonstrating increasing returns. • In brief, as transit frequencies increase, wait times decrease, demand increases, and transit frequencies can increase again. In other words if the services are available and frequent people use the public transport as a first choice … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohring_effect

  14. What can we do? Lobby, lobby, lobby … “United we stand, divided we fall .. “ Aesop

  17. RAIL Back On Track - Media Release 28 July 2007 RAIL Back On Track - Media Release 28 July 2007Ipswich to Rosewood Citytrain Services:  Timetable improvements needed!RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)  a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has called for an imaginative revamp of the timetable for Translink Citytrain services between Rosewood and Ipswich, servicing one of the fastest growing regions in South East Queensland.  Congestion on Ipswich Highway is deadly and providing alternative accessible frequent transport options for commuters is urgently needed.Robert Dow said: The present Citytrain timetable between Rosewood and Ipswich has huge gaps in weekday morning and afternoon schedules and a number of services during the day ….

  21. Southern rail corridor • Freight movement across Queensland is expected to double by the year 2020, with the most rapid growth anticipated to be in south east Queensland. • As part of the effort to plan for this growth, the Department of Transport and Main Roads has engaged AECOM Australia (formerly known as Maunsell) to undertake preliminary planning and impact assessment for the Southern Freight Rail Corridor Study.  • The Southern Freight Rail Corridor Study will help plan for the future growth of rail freight in south east Queensland. It is part of the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program 2009-2026, the Queensland Government's A$82 billion, 20 year infrastructure plan to manage population growth and protect our lifestyle.

  22. Southern rail corridor (cont.) • The study’s aim is to identify a future route for a freight rail corridor connecting the western rail line near Rosewood to the interstate railway north of Beaudesert. The Southern Freight Rail Corridor will serve as a major freight link connecting a future Melbourne to Brisbane inland rail line with the existing south east Queensland rail freight network. • The Southern Freight Rail Corridor Study is a long term planning study. Any decision regarding the future construction of the Southern Freight Rail line will ultimately depend on a range of factors, including whether or not the proposed Melbourne to Brisbane inland rail line goes ahead. In the meantime, identifying and preserving this route will give south east Queensland a major reserve of freight rail capacity for the state’s future economic growth. • http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Projects_and_initiatives/Projects/Southern_freight_rail_corridor_study/
