RECPnetin Brief • RECPnet operates as a global networking initiative that brings together organizations that are professionally involved in and committed to the promotion of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) in developing and transition countries • Key functions • Innovation and knowledge management • Capacity building • Advocacy • Quality assurance and branding • RECPnet has regular, associate and observer members • RECPnetoperates under the partronage of the global joint UNIDO UNEP RECP Programme
Assembly Objectives • To present and review progress achieved in establishment and service delivery since 1st Members’ Assembly • To update membership on key initiatives undertaken through Secretariat • To scope the workplan for 2014-2015 • To elect officers for period leading up to 3rd Members’ Assembly

Targets Workplan 2011-2013 • 1. Consolidation • Achieving a critical mass of Members and starting the efficient delivery of networking functions • 2. Service Delivery • Demonstrating the benefits of RECPnet to the core constituencies of RECPnet, in particular Members, Patron Agencies and other partners • 3. Advocacy • Fostering the recognition of the critical importance of RECP for achieving sustainable industrial development
RECPnet Membership • Initiated in 2009, RECPnet was officially created in November 2010 with founding membership of 41 organizations • Maintained and expanded to 54 members in August 2013 • Members from 34 target countries • 2 inaugural members have not (yet) returned • 23 (out of 33) regular members are NCPCs, and 10 (out of 18) observer members • 33 (out of 50) RECP Programme countries are member of RECPnet
Membership Fee • Due annually for Regular and Associate Members, based on country of main location • Non OECD USD1000/yr; OECD USD3,000/yr • By Charter waived for 2011, by ExCie decision waived for 2012 • Due from 2013, as per operational guideline approved by ExCie • UNIDO appointed as administrator • Net fees exclusive of bank charges and PSC, are exclusively available for Secretariat activities identified in workplan of RECPnet • Special provisions • LDC members can apply for fee waiver to be decided by ExCie on basis of member’s record of participation and contribution to RECPnet • OECD based members can offset maximum of USD2,000 of their membership fee with pre-approved in kind contributions towards activities identified in workplan (at notional rate of USD500/day)
Regional Chapters • ToR developed and approved by ExCie (Nov ’12), and revised and approved by ExCie (Sep 13) • Network members are chapter members in the region of their main location and can at their own initiative participate in and contribute to the activities of other Chapters • (Associate) members located outside target regions of developing and transition countries do not belong to any specific regional chapter • Foundation meetings organized • Brainstorm on organization, operation and activities of regional chapter • Introductory training in RECPnet knowledge management system • (Arab Region – Vienna, Nov 2012) • African Region – Pretoria, Mar 2013 • EECCA Region – Vienna, April 2013 • SESEA Region – Hanoi, April 2013 • LAC Region – Lima, June 2013 • Formation of national networks under consideration (Viet Nam)
Achievements: Consolidation • 30% increase in membership base • Solid core membership with >60% regular members • Established web-site and information materials • Prepared five regional chapters and organized launching meetings for four regions during Q1-2, 2013
3rd RECP Networking Conference • 4th-5th September 2013 • 140 participants, including representatives of 50 RECPnetmembers • Combined with thematic workshops on 2nd and 3rd September Organized with support of
Achievements: Service Delivery • Convened 3rd global RECP networking conference • Established and started populating web-based knowledge management system with multiple functionalities for cooperation and peer learning and delivered introductory training • Update and reflections at 10:30 • Started intensive capacity building initiative to improve business model and service delivery of nine network members • Update and reflections at 11:30
Achievements: Advocacy • Hosted multiple side events at relevant international meetings • Supporting global reviews of best (policy) practices, including on eco-industrial parks, business case and policy guide/case

Impact • Good progress in putting RECPnet into operation • +ves: • Increased networking intensity • Greater knowledge of activities of other members • Diversified and strengthened through non-NCPC members • Greater recognition for importance of RECP in regions (LAC, AFR,..) • -ves • Procedures and communications remain tardy and patchy • Degree of lethargy among members to contribute information, effort and time to networking as a result of relatively narrow focus on what to getfrom network • Challenge for membership to start using the ‘infrastructure’ created and experience that sharing and networking requires two-way interactions
