Structure of section R • 80 - Dramatic arts, music and other arts and entertainment activities • 81 - Museums activities, preservation of historical sites, botanical and zoological gardens and nature reserves activities • 82 – Gambling and betting activities • 83 – Sports activities and amusement and recreation activities
Scope, concept • Comprises provision of services to meet the cultural, entertainment, recreational and sports interest of customers • Comprises operation of facilities that enable the above • Usually provided through direct contact with the user of such services (in performances, museums, live events, etc) • Responds to increasing need for better recognition of specific categories
Portions of ISIC Rev.3.1 section O have been placed as below: • old division 90 to ISIC Rev.4 draft Section E ( water supply, sewerage…) • old division 92 broadly split between “Information and communication” section and “Arts, entertainment and recreation section” • old 9211, 9212, 9213 and 9231 in “Information and communication” section • The remaining two divisions 91 and 93 in new section S • The arts, entertainment and recreation portion of old 92 has been elevated to a section, stressing the importance for recognition of such activities
ISIC 3.1 to ISIC 4 • Dramatic arts music and other arts, raised from a class to a division • Better recognized in the structure, creating possibility for further/national detail below • Out of ISIC Rev.3.1 9249 “Other recreational activities”, are recognized separately: • Gambling and betting activities • Activities of amusement parks and theme parks • More detail created in sports activities area; former 9241 “split” into four new classes: • 7641 “Sports and recreation education”( placed in Education section) • 8311, 8312, 8319
ISIC 3.1 to ISIC 4 (cont’ d) • Switch “gambling and betting” with “sports” in the structure keeping the detail below the same • 82 < - > 831 To consider for the above: - which is bigger in size, “gambling and betting” or “sports”? - which are more alike, “sports and other recreation”, or, “gambling and betting and other recreation”? - status quo + question on 82 < - > 831
ISIC 3.1 to ISIC 4 (cont’d) • Activities of journalists, photojournalists and technical writers • Technical writers- same as other authors or exercising a profession? • Photojournalists with photographic activities • Journalists- with news agency activities (Information) or with writers? • Activities of “promoters” i.e. activities of producers or entrepreneurs of live events with or without facilities • Split three ways according to the art or recreation activity performed: in 8000 (performing arts), 8319 (sports), 8329 (other amusement or recreation) • this treatment is consistent with ISIC Rev. 3.1
