A.) The Oregon Trail The Oregon Trail lasted from the early 1830’s to about 1869. In 1834, a group of missionaries traveled west to the Oregon territory. In the years that followed, many other settlers followed.

A.) The Oregon Trail One of the main reasons FUR TRADERS went on the Oregon Trail was for Beaver Fur. One of the most famous trappers was Jedediah Smith.
B.) Jedediah Smith Jedediah Smith, originally of New York, was a famous hunter, fur trapper, author, trailblazer, cartographer and explorer. He was one of the first to travel the Salt Lake Frontier. He died in 1831 at age 32.
