IDA Research, Development & Innovation FundingIreland places huge importance on research and innovation to attract foreign direct investment IDA Overview • Irish Government has a high priority to encourage and fund RD&I Science, Technology and Innovation. Strategy for Science, Technology & Innovation 2007-2013 will invest €3.8 billion over the 7 year period. • IDA, the government agency responsible for industrial development in Ireland, have been given funding of €500m through the Innovation Fund which will be used to support RD&I in companies across all sectors. • Feasibility & Training Support • Designed to stimulate and develop RD&I initiatives within companies. • Subsequent RD&I Funding • Subject to viable business support can cover capital, direct & sub-contract funding to support an innovation programme or centre. • Tax Relief / Other • Additional to corporate tax rate of 12.5% there is a 25% R&D tax credit on qualifying R&D, no tax on earnings from IP where underlying R&D work carried out in Ireland & there is no stamp duty on IP rights in Ireland. Davos Polls For their annual conference in Davos, the World Economic Forum wanted to poll people all over the world in order to get a sense of global values. • Typically a world-wide poll would be pretty hard to pull off – you’d have to include lots of people, translators and a team of people to get the poll out to people.• On Facebook, we were able to poll 130,000 in ten countries and ask them what they thought about global issues. And we could do this in just one day.• We worked with Nielsen to compile and analyze the results. o The polls showed a large majority of people – 67.8 percent – said the current global economic crisis was also a crisis of ethics and values and businesses need to do more to be more transparent. o This was a theme of the conference and something the world’s political and business leaders heard. And they heard it directly from the citizens of the world. INPUT?
