Proposal • A terminology standard on multimedia home network configuration
Background • PT 62608: Multimedia systems and equipment - Multimedia home network configuration - Basic reference model, it is proposed from Japan. • PT members of Japan study CD. In this study, it was clear that the terminology of network technology for CE (consumer electronics) equipment and systems is very unclear and ambiguous. • Network terminology is oriented IT (internet technology) and there was no relation with CE technology, and it is not familiar with CE, but the current CE devices has a capability of IT. • The blended devices of CE and IT technology are being popular now, but terminology is not defined yet.
Example • Home network system • Router, Gateway, definition? • Server, what? • NAS, what kind of NAS? • DLNA capable? • IT specific terminology • DHCP, CLI, SNMP, zero-config, CLM, DMTF, etc…
