  3. THE CAHSEE • Every tenth grader must take the CAHSEE in March • You MUST pass the CAHSEE to get your diploma • The more times a person takes the CAHSEE, the harder the test seems to be for them to pass… So… Pass it the first time! English = Reading + Essay

  4. Materials • You need a spiral notebook or composition book just for this class! • You need a pen or pencil. • Flashcards! Yes, you should be studying! Yes we will have quizzes and tests! No! it will not count as a grade! Yes, you are doing this to help yourself pass the CAHSEE!

  6. Essay Scores • The CAHSEE is scored on a scale of 1-4. • 3-4 is a passing score. • 1-2 means you must take the test over next year! How did you do?

  9. The Essay • It’s important to make goals for yourself when you write, this is how we improve. • Reread your CAHSEE Essay and reflect on your score. How could you make your essay better? • What are 1-2 goals you have for your next essay? Finish the statement I will improve my writing for next time by _____________.

  13. The Thesis When you are writing an essay on an issue, your thesis should be your opinion on the topic. It should show your attitude (feeling) towards this subject. After thinking about this issue, what point do you want to make?

  16. Leadership is a key ingredient for success in today’s world. But leadership may be easier to spot than to define. Think about what it takes to be a good leader. Write an essay explaining the qualities of a good leader. Share your reasons for identifying each quality. Be sure to support your ideas with details and examples. THESIS:

Write an essay for your school newspaper putting forth your idea about how best to help. Use specific details, examples, and reasons to convince your readers. THESIS:

Once you uploaded the program, you found that it was incompatible. • Write a letter of complaint to the manufacturer (Comix Software, 300 Main Street, New York, New York (10011).
