  4. Context & Analysis of the issue Awareness is one of the key areas that the policy must take on board to address the problem of waste management. There had been sporadic awareness activities undertaken in the past but with little or no effect E.g: • Ad-hoc community Clean up campaign • School clean up • Clean up in urban centers by various groups It is the intention of this action plan to provide the following: -

  5. Objectives • To look at ways of improving waste management awareness activities • To integrate waste management awareness into the education system (Primary / Secondary level) • To secure political support.

Options • Review and evaluate current awareness programs on waste management • Establish Review Committees in Honiara and Provinces to evaluate the existing awareness waste management programs in their respective jurisdiction • Using findings of the review for purposes of improving existing waste management awareness programs • Involve relevant education authorities • Convene consultative awareness workshop for all stake holders including Education authorities • Develop a curriculum on waste management to be used in schools • Organize workshops on waste management program for teachers and trainers

Employ different media in awareness programs • Radio – SIBC & FM Stations HF radios • Printed media – Solomon Star, The Sun etc etc. • TV • Electronic mails • Newsletters (Use the languages & method that the people can better respond to & understand)
