Introduction • Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Qualifications in Health and Social Care • These new qualifications have been developed in collaboration with the Sector Skills Council - Skills for Care and Development and in consultation with employers and training providers. • They introduce learners to employment within the Health and Social Care sector. • They cover the latest industry requirements.
Introduction 5 new Level 1 qualifications have been developed in collaboration with Skills for Care and Development 3 qualifications have been developed for England only 2 qualifications have been developed for Wales and Northern Ireland The qualifications have been developed with a pre-employment focus Each qualification contains mandatory units All units are at Level 1. 5

Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Award in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care (QCF) This Award is a stand alone qualification. Learners must achieve a minimum of 6 credits. Centres will need to deliver all of the Mandatory units in Group A.
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings (QCF) This Award is nested within the larger Certificate. Learners must achieve a minimum of 10 credits in total. 6 Credits must be taken from Mandatory Group A and a minimum of 4 credits must be taken from Optional Group B.
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings (QCF)
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings Learners must achieve a minimum of 25 credits. 20 credits must be taken from Mandatory Group A and a minimum of 5 credits must be taken from Optional Group B. Additional Information • Centres can choose to continue delivery of current versions until 31st August 2012 • New versions are available from 1st September 2011 • The new versions are PASS only • There is no Diploma available in the new specifications • The specifications include detailed mapping for assessment of Functional Skills • New Units and content are now available on the website • Resources available, will be activity based, rather than textbooks.
