Today’s Outcomes To introduce the new collaborative level 1 Health & Social Care qualifications To gain an understanding of the structures and the changes to these Level 1 qualifications To consider the timing options for implementing the new qualifications Identify the new units and options for delivery To recognise your commitment to continued professional development.
Introduction • Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Qualifications in Health and Social Care • These new qualifications have been developed in collaboration with the Sector Skills Council - Skills for Care and Development and in consultation with employers and training providers. • They introduce learners to employment within the Health and Social Care sector. • They cover the latest industry requirements.
Introduction 5 new Level 1 qualifications have been developed in collaboration with Skills for Care and Development 3 qualifications have been developed for England only 2 qualifications have been developed for Wales and Northern Ireland The qualifications have been developed with a pre-employment focus Each qualification contains mandatory units All units are at Level 1. 5

Summary • Centres can choose to continue delivery of current versions until 31st August 2012 • New qualifications available from 1st September 2011 • The new and existing Level 1 qualifications are PASS only • There is no Diploma available in the new specifications • The specifications include detailed mapping for assessment of Functional Skills • New Units and content are now available on the website • Sample assignment briefs available to support delivery and assessment.
