  2. Why did it begin? • WWII was fought against racism at home, yet we harbored it at home. • How could we condemn Nazi Germany for their prosecution of the Jews when we were belittling the black man at home.

  4. White Supremacy • There were groups of people who were in direct opposition to black people gaining rights and believed they were better because they were white. • Ex: The Ku Klux Klan

  5. Desegregation • Slowly across the country, schools began to integrate, allowing white and black students to attend the same schools. What do you think this sign means?

  6. Segregation • Public places were divided into facilities for blacks and facilities for whites.
