Brune Park Community College Project overview The project proposal consisted of three elements • To teach the students about visual language and constructed photography - this would allow me to work with the students collaboratively to produce a series of constructed images. I then submitted these images for my photography degree. • Secondly I delivered further practical sessions on photography and theoretical sessions on visual language. As part of these sessions the students began to formulate their own project and I gave tutorials to help the students develop their ideas. • The students had to produce work for and organise a professional exhibition to be held at the Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth. For this element of the project I liaised with the Suzanne Lewis of Portsmouth Education and Business Partnership, and Amy Lloyd the Educational Co-ordinator at The Aspex Gallery. • Funding was secured through The University of Portsmouth through the Professional Practice programme. Students are given the opportunity to pitch for funds up to £1000. Through my pitch I secured the maximum funding available.
Project Outcomes • 23 of 24 Creative and Media studies Diploma students showed work at the exhibition • 15 of the 23 showing artist/students chose photography, 3 created clay sculptures, 2 produced a video installation while 3 created 3D sculptures. • The opening of the exhibition was attended by in excess of 100 guest • All the students were extremely proud of what they had achieved. At the opening the students were activity and confidently talking to guest about the work they had produced. • The work produced was submitted as a module for the Creative and Media studies Diploma, many of the students achieved A and A* grades for the module. • Working in this cross functional way helped me to secure the sponsorship and funding that enabled the students to deliver a professional and successful exhibition.
