  2. Overview • Soar to Success Math Software is a Web-based Math Intervention software intended for use by struggling students • It is designed to provide skill-based instruction and practice organized in strands, for students who need help to achieve mastery of on-level math skills. • The student component includes diagnostic testing, instructional teaching models, prescriptive reports, and assignments. • The teacher component includes a management system that permits monitoring, reporting, and customization of assignments.

  3. How it works • When students log in Soar to Success, they choose their name from the roster the teacher has created. • After selecting their name, they will move on to a warm-up of their first assigned skill. The Warm-Up Module is designed to determine each student's level of proficiency in an assigned skill. • Students enter the warm-up two skills below level. As a student submits answers, Soar to Success monitors the student's proficiency level for the skill being tested. • Should a student fail to demonstrate mastery of a skill, the warm-up steps backward, down the skill thread, presenting questions until the student shows a high level of proficiency.

  4. How to Log On • Go to www.eduplace.com/eservices • Your Log in is the first letter of your first name, your last name and the initials of your school site. (Ex – Barbara Sanchez at the District Office = bsanchezdo) Harvest Valley = hv Mesa View = mv Romoland =re • Password = Teacher

  5. Select the your desired application from the eServices portal page. • The first CA Math is for Soar to Success (This is where we will be working today) • The second CA Math is for CA Math – the on line version of the Textbook. • This is the on line version of the Social Studies program (not everyone has this available yet – we are working on it, as well as attempting to get the HM CA Reading )

  6. Select the Soar to Success application from the eServices portal page. • You will now be presented with a Class Overview screen.

  7. Adding a Student • To add a student, click Add Student… • In the window that will pop up, you will need to fill in all asterisked fields. • The Unique ID is the first initial of the student’s name + last name + last 4 of student's school ID number. • The Password is the initials of the school of attendance Harvest Valley = hv Mesa View = mv Romoland =res

  8. The Passing Rate will default to 80%. Do not change this rate on an individual student basis, as it can affect classroom metrics. • NCLB Data is optional information for teachers using Soar to Success in conjunction with the Houghton Mifflin Online Assessment System (HMOAS). • When you have completed all required fields, you may click Save and return to the Class Overview or click Save and add another to create another student profile.

  9. Roster Management • Once your student list is created it may be added to or deleted from at any time by using the buttons at the bottom of the screen. • To delete a student's name, check the box next to the name and click Delete Student(s). Multiple names can be deleted at once. To select all names in the roster, click Check All. • To add a student, click Add Student… In the window that will pop up, you will need to fill in all asterisked fields.

  11. Remain on the Current and Pending Assignments tab. • Click on Add Assignment(s) from List… Clicking this button will bring up a window with a list of all skill threads and lessons..

  12. Select one of the skill threads you want to look in by clicking on the “+” sign to open a drop down menu. • You can select a lesson at the student's target level and choose whether or not to have the student complete a warm-up, or diagnostic assignment by clicking on the box next to the assignment name

  13. Viewing skill threads, Lessons, and Teacher Models • To view a complete list of skill threads and their associated lessons, click any skill thread title in the student's queue. • By clicking a lesson title in the skill thread list (or in the Current Lesson column of the student's queue), you may view the teaching model for that lesson.

  14. Deleting and Reordering Assignments • To delete any assignment, check the box next to the assignment(s) and click Remove Assignment(s). • Assignments are arranged in the queue based on default values for each skill path. However, you can manually rearrange assignments in a student's queue. To do this, enter numbers in the Order column to reflect the new arrangement, and then click Save Reorder.

  15. Progress Notification • In the Class Overview, you will see detailed information about each student's status, such as the student's current skill thread, how many lessons they have remaining in that skill thread, and how many assignments have been completed in all. • You will also see details of any recent student activity that may indicate a student is continuing to struggle with a particular skill (indicated by a red flag), or that a student is making great strides (indicated by a gold star).

  16. For struggling students, additional intervention and/or a reevaluation of placement within the skill path may be necessary. • Teachers may opt to “Fast Track” a student who is having continued success with a skill path. • Any student whose status displays a red flag will not be able to proceed with a new assignment until the teacher has intervened. • To clear the red flag and allow the student to proceed, click the student's name in the roster and then click the Clear Flag button within the Current and Pending Assignments tab.

  17. Student History • The History tab provides date, score, and status information on every Skill Thread and Lesson the teacher has assigned to the student.

  18. Report Generation • Soar to Success provides some basic student reports: • Skills Progress (showing the status of assigned and completed skill threads and on-level targets) • Activity Log (showing student milestones, stamped with date and time, within a program).
