What is Bhajan Bhajan- Bhajan is a devotional composition. Mainly it aims at praying God or praised the God-Goddesses. Bhajans are very appealing and melodious to sing. There is no rigidity of Tals and Raga in Bhajan. The main focus is on words and feelings. It may be in any Raga like Sohini, Kafi, Pahari, Kalavati, Khamaj, Mand, Piloo etc. There may be mixture of many ragas is one Bhajan, only what matrers is their appeal on the audience. Mainly the Padas of Sur, Mira, Tulsi, Kabir, Raskhan, Nanad, Khalsa, Dadu-Dayal are being preferred.
Their compositions touch the heart. The Talas used in Bhajan are Kaharwa, Dadra, Roopak etc. Bhajans are different in rendering than Khyal Here Meend, Kan, Khatka and other embellishments matter a lot. The voice which is naturally gifted and sweet, whether it may not be so cultured as that of Khyal is preferred for singing Bhajan. Bhajans are sung almost in all programmers by all good musicians after singing Drut Khyal, Tarana and Thumari. Bhajans are mostly in Shanta Rasa.
