POST-MODERNISM • Return-history • Humanism Communication • representation of architecture • Narrative presentation
THE FEATURE OF POST-MODERNISM ARCHITECTURES • Representing history – communication, becoming more human. • building as a sign -- stands for other meaning besides architecture, like commercial. • Narrative -- using linguistic method to create architecture or using architecture to speak things • Basic on modernism, and didn’t create new theory history but challenging the preconception of modernism architecture
PIAZZA D’ITALIA – Charles Moore • Represent history element – form, color and light. • Humanism - Communication with city and people • Meaning of building -- refer to the map of Italia city
THE PORTLAND BUILDING • Represent Italian architectural history
AT&T BUILDING • Convey meaning by Recognizable historical symbol
AUSTIAN TRAVEL BUREAU -- Hans Hollein • Different elements stands for different feature of the country • Used wall poster to show the world • Architecture indicated a meaning of experience of travel the world
LAS VEGAS • Present images, meanings • Communicate with people
CONCLUSION • Post-modernism inherit the historical architecture including the modernism. • Signs provide meanings of history, story, communication...so on • Post-modernism enrich the following architectural theories and architecture.
