Educator Evaluation Update • USED approved delaying use of student growth data to inform Personnel Decisions until Aug. 2016 (2016-17 school year). • Proposing a 3 year rolling average for teacher and principal effectiveness ratings means need to start in 2014-15 (yr 1)
Statewide classroom value-add must start in 2014-15 • Tested grades and subjects (beyond 3rd grade) • Need to do Roster Verification • Process by which Principal and Teacher agree on the % responsibility teacher holds for each student. Can vary by • < 100% Attendance • Additional services (interventionists, pull out or other resource teachers) • Etc.

What will happen in 2014-15? • Early Fall 2014 – relevant teachers and principals will do initial roster verification • Late Spring 2015 – will update rosters with any changes. • Rosters and test scores go to Value-add Vendor • Early Fall 2015 – Receive Yr. 1 Value-add score and predictive information for 2014-15 students as available.
Science Standards Update • ALL Standards approved by State Board Education in Jan. 2014 • All standards except H.B.5 (High School Biology - Evolution) approved by EOC in Feb. 2014 • Support document development initiated • Nominations for team members closed Feb. 28, 2014. • First meeting March 31, 2014
Instructional materials • AP Biology, AP Chem and AP Physics approved for adoption (pending availability of funds) in 2014 (materials available for 2015-16 school year) • K-8 science (including kits) and Biology under consideration for 2015 adoption (2016-17 use)
Summer Reading Camps • Guidance memo on structure and content of camps issued Dec. 10, 2013 • Guidance memo on using Federal funds (Title 1, etc.) to support camps issued Jan. 24, 2014 • “Supplement, not supplant” is dependent on definition of eligible students • “…students who are substantially not demonstrating reading proficiency at the end of 3rd grade.” • State funds guidance to be issued by Office of Finance.
