Keyword Bingo Rules • Throughout the lesson as you hear me say a keyword, mark it on the board in front of you. • Call out ‘House’ when you have ticked off all words BUT BE WARNED ONLY CALL OUT HOUSE WHEN YOU THINK YOUR TEAM WILL BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN WHAT EACH OF THE KEYWORDS MEAN!!
Keywords • What do you think the keywords could mean? • Thinking about the keywords, what do you think this lesson could be about?
Understand that we can use technology to control things • By the end of the lesson; • You must have identified at least two things that can be controlled by technology. • You should understand that we can change things to get different outcomes. • You could be able to explain what each of the keywords mean.
What types of things are controlled by technology? • Traffic Lights • Air Conditioning • Thermostat • Service Lights • Room Lights • Alarm Clocks • Games Consoles • TV
What types of things are these controlling? • Lights • Temperature • Sound • Visuals
TV Volume Control • If I wanted you to change the volume on my TV what would two things would need to know? • Whether to turn it up or down • How much to turn it up or down by • These different elements that can be changed to create a different outcome are called Variables
Rules • The Volume cannot be less than 0 or more than 30 • If the new volume is less than 0 then set the volume to 0 • If the new volume is more than 30 set the volume to 30
Simulation • A simulation lets you test something out before doing it in real life • Why might this be helpful? • What real life situations could be tested before doing them?
Testing • Predicting what is going to happen • Checking that something is going to do what you expect it to do
Duck Simulation • Using the hand outs and the testing tables record if you think the duck in the picture will fly. • Next change the variables in the duck game and test to see if your prediction was correct. • Don’t forget to update your testing table with the actual outcome!!!
Understand how sequences work • By the end of the lesson; • You must have used a flow chart to show the correct order of a sequence. • You should understand that different control symbols in a flow chart represent different things. • You could write your own sequences to control a character in a game.
Lesson Tasks • Task 1 – Drag and drop the sequence into order • Task 2 – Drag and drop the symbols
Lesson Tasks • Task 3 – Dock the block • Task 4 – Drag and drop the symbols
Lesson Tasks • Task 5 – Lightbot This game is quite difficult so it is very important to read all of the instructions!
