  4. New Fee Schedule effective March 4, 2009- Registration Fee increase from $15 to $50 to generate enough revenue to support existing program. In recruitment is a wage position- inspector Continue to see demand for inspections for fee Dentists are installing dental CT units. Private Inspector List (April 2009) more user friendly X-ray Machine Program

  5. VDH is considering legislative initiative to collect fee from utility to support environmental monitoring program for the North Anna and Surry Nuclear Power Stations. Environmental Monitoring Program

  6. Plume Phase evaluated exercise for Surry Nuclear Power Station on August 4, 2009 June 15-19 Emergency Assembly Centers evaluated VDH and VDEM are conducting a review of state, local and VDH plans/procedures for Dominion’s application for third reactor at North Anna Emergency Preparedness Program

  7. New supply of KI 130 mg tablets EPA is revising their Protection Action Guidance (PAG) (Still waiting) New software- Turbo Frmac, ERDS Hosted REP Conference in Norfolk April 20-23 EMP (cont)

  8. On January 12, 2009, Governor appointed Les Foldesi to serve as Alternate Commissioner to the Southeast Compact Commission. Next Compact meeting June 16 and 17 in St. Petersburg, FL VA Delegation is trying to meet before the Compact meeting. VDH Waste study is pending. Radioactive Low-Level Waste

  9. Virginia Coal and Energy Commission subcommittee intends to contract with the National Research Council (NRC) to conduct a study. Subcommittee will meet May 21 to review scope of study proposed by the NRC So far VDH involvement has been related to the drinking water. VA Roanoke River Basin Advisory Committee- April 30 Uranium Mining in VA

  10. Status of Agreement State • On March 4, 2009 Chairman Klein signed the agreement • On March 18, 2009 Governor Kaine signed the agreement • On March 23, 2009 the agreement was delivered to the NRC

Agreement State (cont) Mike Welling (front left) from the Virginia Dept. of Health delivered to NRC's Charles Miller (back left center) and staff an agreement that was signed by NRC Chairman Dale Klein and Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine to assume NRC's regulatory authority over certain nuclear materials in the state. Virginia is the 36th state to sign such an agreement

  12. Agreement State (cont) • On March 31, 2009 Virginia became the 36th Agreement State • The NRC delivered 69 boxes containing the folders for approximately 400 licensees • Staff immediately began to place the files in our new filing cabinet

  13. Agreement State (cont) • Currently we have 430 active specific licenses • We have amended 39 licenses and issued 2 new licenses to date • We have 18 active reciprocity licensees of which 3 have been inspected • On May 5, 2009 initial licensing bills were mailed out

  14. Agreement State (cont) • Pending Actions: • Continue to amend licenses and begin renewal process • Begin inspections of specific licensees • Continue inspections of reciprocity licenses • Begin work on the general license database • Begin sending out annual license invoices

  15. Agreement State (cont) • Staff: • Richmond Office: Charles Coleman, Leo Meire • Bristol: Kim Gilliam • Yorktown: Beth Schilke • Currently in the process of hiring an administrative assistant • Working with management on the addition of another Radiation Safety Specialist
