  1. SiLC beam test ’07:status and plans Zdeněk Dolezal Charles University Prague SiLC WS, Prague April 2007

  2. Facilities 2007-8 • DESY: • shutdown July 2007 • Shutdown January-August 2008 • CERN • Available till LHC startup (used to be November 2007) • LHC priority afterwards • TB again available after LHC commissioning (?months?) • FNAL • Meson testing beam facility available all the time • Beam structure not very suitable, but useable • Looks user-friendly • Logistics difficult

  3. Facilities 2007-8: infrastructure • DESY: • Everything tested in October • Telescopes available • CERN • Experience of LHC groups • No telescopes at the moment • FNAL • No telescopes at the moment

  4. Plans 2007 • DESY, June 4-15 • CERN, October 10-23

  5. What is needed? • Trigger + DAQ + Telescopes • Prototype modules + DAQ HW • DAQ software • Chamber, XY stage • Manpower (experts, shifters) • Data analysis

  6. What is available for DESY? • Trigger + DAQ + Telescopes: OK • Prototype modules + DAQ HW – see next slides • DAQ software: existing LabView, changes realistic? • Synchronisation: Canberra counter • Chamber: under construction in Paris • XY stage: OK • Manpower (experts, shifters): Hopefully OK, please come! • Data analysis: basic framework exists

  7. SiLC Prototype Modules IExisting

  8. Problems from 2006 • VA1 chips not responding at 2 modules: FIXED • Common mode/ pedestal changes: could be fixed by analysis, or grounding • Trigger frequency too low for stable running: is it fixed? • Dead time of LabView SW: is it better? • Multiple scattering from Tscopes and scintillator: new position between the telescopes

  9. SiLC Prototype Modules IITo be constructed

  10. What is available for CERN? • Trigger + DAQ + Telescopes: NO • Prototype modules + DAQ HW – to be discussed • DAQ software: existing LabView will be too slow • Synchronisation: Canberra not realistic in ~kHz rate counter • Chamber: DESY chamber can be reused • XY stage: not available • Manpower (experts, shifters): please plan to come! • Data analysis: basic framework exists, but with new HW&SW it should be updated

  11. Backup slides

  12. Trigger + DAQ+Telescopes ZEUS DESY group telescopes used (thanks to Tobias Haas, Uli Koetz, Jolanta Sztuk): trigger photomuliplier • 3 defining an area of 9x9 mm2 triggering the readout of the 3 telescope units telescope • 3 modules with crossed sensors about 3x3 cm2; diode pitch 25 micron, readout pitch 50 micron ("Cern type", Coledani et al., NIM372(1996)379 ) readout • CAEN module 550 and 551 in VME Power PC in the VME crate coincidence, deadtime control,... in a NIM crate in the hut. The VME crate is close to the telescope. Software and data format under investigations

  13. DAQ HW+SW Telescopes: • CAEN VME V550+551 ADC+sequencer • PowerPC in VME Crate, Lynx OS • DESY SW SiLC modules: • Interface card between UMC/VA chips and ADC • NI AD card, 100 MHz, 14 bit (PCI or PXI) • LabView DAQ SW • Readout speed limitations
