Long-term benefits of international connections Exchanging data for comparable weather/climate regimes Increasing shared knowledge of available model output and observational datasets Improving student understanding of extreme events Tracking interannual and climate trend impacts Promoting student and faculty exchange Developing new ideas and funding sources for Unidata projects

Integrating an international component for proposals Seek international opportunities directly and indirectly associated with agency announcements Survey Unidata participants for current and potential Sister University (SU) connections (current affiliations may exist via other disciplines) ; provide examples of SU charters and activities Build from ongoing cooperative efforts of UPC and Unidata participants (Brazil, Costa Rica, Barbados, etc) Team with COMET to explore other likely links

  4. Community discussion and action Identify any immediate targets for Unidata proposal development Generate email discussion between UPC staff, Policy Committee and Users Committee of current and potential benefits (and resource costs) for international partnerships Promote informal discussion and distribute a brief survey at upcoming Unidata and COMET workshops (in context of workshop themes) Review any preliminary results of individual UPC or Unidata participant SU initiatives at fall committee meetings
