Then I Got This Note Adrian Stephens: I have performed my own analysis of the rules that are in EN 300 328. I find that the CSMA/CA channel access mechanism doesn't meet the rules as described. There is an inherent structural difference that CCA may be sampled in a slotted fashion during backoff - i.e. there is no requirement to be sensitive to CCA outside certain times (as I read the standard). The rules in '328 talk about the medium being idle for a [by implication, continuous] period of time. A secondary issue is that the rules as described would prevent the use of the 802.11e QoS EDCA channel access mechanism, which relies on the ability to use smaller CWmin values for high priority traffic.
