  1. Dental Checkup Robot By Paul Flanagan

  2. Problem Checking Teeth: Usually, dentists will check a patient’s teeth by looking for any open spaces in the mouth or discoloration of the teeth. This robot mimics this by using a light sensor and an ultrasonic sensor.

  3. Research • Steps required: • Looking at teeth to see if missing • Check for any discoloration • Teeth Anatomy • Cavities are caused when bacteria feed on sugar in mouth and produce acidic waste products, which dissolve enamel

  4. Development Labeled photos Used Task Bot How I attached sensors

  5. Realization Final design w/ labels + annotations Switched sensors Light Sensor Ultrasonic Sensor

  6. Evaluation • Pic of whole test • Evaluation • The only trouble I had was keeping the robot in line with the teeth • Evaluation • The robot correctly checked each cup about 19 times out of 20, where the mistake would come from my accidentally not aligning the robot along the path or one of the papers on the cups falling off.

  7. Suggestions for Improvement • I could have come up with a better way to attach the paper to the cups • Possibly glue, better grade tape, etc. • I could have made the robot search both sides of the “teeth” (cups) • Then I would make more cups, and have some specifically all clean, some half clean, some completely dirty, etc. • I could have made the robot count the number of clean, rotten, and missing teeth • But, I didn’t have enough time to do this.
