  1. Connect to ExcelSpreadsheet with an OLE DB Connection

  2. Create an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data source. • Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC).

  3. Add Your New Data Source • Click the Add Button • Choose Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls) • Click Finish • Set Source Name • Select Workbook • Navigate to your File • Click OK • OK to Exit

  4. Reformat your Excel Data • Open your Excel File and Select the area you want to import • Insert > Name > Define • Type Name and click Add, and then OK • Save and close the Workbook

  5. Connect to Excel from ArcCatalog • Open ArcCatalog • Select Database Connection > Add OLE DB Connection • Choose OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers • Select Next • Choose the data Source Name • Select the workbook to Use • Click OK

  6. Add the Excel File to ArcMap • Choose the add data button • Select the OLE DB Connection link • Choose your new table • Click Add • Your file has been added and you can interact with it like any other .dbf
