Qatar National Vision 2030 By: Juan F. Polanco 8A
Qatar’s Vision Qatar is a developing country with a vision for the future. They are finding ways to make Qatar a better place. As well as improving Qatar will be keeping their part of their culture. Qatar won the bid for the 2022 World Cup and I will predict about how far they will be form their vision. The main topic in this presentation is Environmental Development.
The Four Pillars • Qatar's National Vision rests on four pillars • Human Development - development of all its people to enable them to sustain a prosperous society • Social Development - development of a just and caring society based on high moral standards, and capable of playing a significant role in the global partnership for development • Economic Development - development of a competitive and diversified economy capable of meeting the needs of, and securing a high standard of living for, all its people both for the present and for the future • Environmental Development - management of the environment such that there is harmony between economic growth, social development and environmental protection
Environmental Development • The State of Qatar seeks to preserve and protect its unique environment and nurture the abundance of nature granted by God. Accordingly, development will be carried out with responsibility and respect, balancing the needs of economic growth and social development with the conditions for environmental protection.
CHANGES/ DEVELOPEMENTS • So how is the future going to look like from now to 2022. Well Qatar has a few plans for the 2030 Plan. First Qatar has Dohaland, then The Recycling Scheme and finally the Stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. These are some of the projects Qatar as in mind and some are already being developed.
DOHALAND • Firstly Dohaland will lead and inspire development in Doha with a focus on building and promoting an evolutionary new Qatar, providing a dynamic modern lifestyle that exists in harmony with its surroundings. Dohaland’s first project, ‘Musheireb’, is a 35-hectare site which will transform the architectural centre of the capital city, recreating a way of living that is rooted in Qatari culture. This project will be recognized worldwide as defining a new architectural language for the 21st century. A subsidiary of Qatar Foundation, DOHALAND was launched on March 3, 2009, and has since engaged with the community, the youth of Qatar, and world leaders in architecture and green building development.
RECYCLING SCHEME • Recycling scheme, waste management in Qatar is set to go high tech with Qatar’s first integrated domestic recycling centre. This centre is capable of 2,300 tons of domestic waste per day. It is currently being set up in Mesaid and it is a 3.9 billion riyal project. Once the plant becomes operational, commercial and household trash will be collected by trucks and transferred to the 4 new transfer stations. After garbage is sorted into different categories it is then incinerated through the waste energy plant in order to generate electricity
2022 STATIUMS • Qatar was selected to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and they had to face a few problems, one of the was temperature. The climate in Qatar is desert this means its is very hot during the summer which is the time the World Cup will be held in. Temperatures can go up to 45C*, that’s very hot to play such a sport like football. So what Qatar is doing is they are build 12 new stadiums which will be using 0 carbon cooling technology which will keep a 27C* temperature inside the whole of the stadiums. This will enable the games to be at a cool temperature while playing while outside it can stay hot.
WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE? • Qatar is one of the fastest developing countries and that means they are developing in every aspect there is. In my opinion only 1 out of 3 of projects will be fully done by 2022. This is the stadiums; my reason for choosing the stadiums is the event of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar has to build 12 new stadiums not including new roads and buildings. This means Qatar will be focusing on finishing the stadiums as quick as possible. This doesn’t mean the other projects wont be done it just means they will be done later on in the future, after all it is the 2030 plan for Qatar.
2022 World Cup • As we already know on 2 December 2010, Qatar was selected as the location for 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar will be the first Middle East country to host the World Cup. Since the World Cup is in the way of the 2030 Plan, there’s not as much interest on the development of the environment. Qatar will be focusing on the economy more than anything else to make this a successful FIFA World Cup. This means some just a few projects might be done or even stopped in the process.
CONCLUSIONS • I feel that by 2030, Qatar will be one of the most environmentally friendly countries in the world and their plans for 2030 are truly impressive.
